Yes, it is I. Yes it is merely a nap since my last posting. It is Monday and the children do not seem to be able to get up for school by themselves. As most humans, I despise Mondays. The beginning of the week is dreaded around the world. I had a very rough time of things last week so I decided after the grumbling sleepy heads boarded the school bus that I would take a moment of opportunity. You see, I should really not be left unsupervised because one idea led to another and I found myself searching for Robin Williams on Google. I suppose this was not a terrible thing until I got to this: 15 Amazing Things We Learned About Robin Williams During His AMA
Yes, friends. I stumbled upon Dead Poets Society. As I read earlier in the above mentioned article; Robin Williams was quite taken by the director from DPS. I am not sure if it is the character of Peter Weir or the subject of the movie or everything rolled into one. I am just happy that I am not the only one slightly smitten with the tale of youth dabbling in literature to the point of gaining confidence to stand up for what they believe in. Whatever Happened to the Cast of Dead Poets Society? At the end is the gripping clip of Williams' former students in the "Oh Captain" scene. I think my day will begin with one movie in particular. I could use the lift.
I did indeed watch Dead Poets Society. I did indeed cry a little as I watched the "Oh Captain, My Captain" scene. I am always blown away by that movie as I watch these preppy boys become free thinkers because their captain pointed them to the door of thought. My mind turns to thoughts of conformity. I believe one of the Emerson pieces mentions conformity. “Your genuine actions will explain your other genuine actions. Your conformity explains nothing.” My instinctual reply: Conforming merely creates a show of one’s ability to play nice. Is conformity often confused with respect? I hope that my actions are not seen as conformity because no matter how I feel about a topic I try my best to respect how others think while voicing my reasons for the stand I take.
